Died, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Sarah C. Cleveland, on the morning of December 18th, 1895, Henry Edward Carver.
He was born at Baltimore, Maryland February 5th, 1820. When about six years old his father moved with his family to Cincinnati, Ohio. He was married to Kitty A. Glascoe, October 13th, 1839. In 1825 they with their family removed to Iowa City, Iowa, from thence in 1864 to Marion, Iowa.
Their family consisted of nine children five of whom are still living, namely: Mrs. Sarah C. Cleveland, with whom they have lately made their home, Mrs. Emma Fisher, of Omaha, Nebraska, George W. Carver, Marion, Iowa, Lewis Franklin Carver, Elkajon, California, and William Edward Carver, Marion, Iowa. All were present at the funeral except Louis Franklin.
Brother Carver united with the Methodist Episcopal Church in Cincinnati at the age of fourteen years. During the preaching of the Advent by Wm. Miller and others in 1843 and '44, he embraced the Advent faith having ever since remained a firm believer in the personal coming of the Savior, which he ardently looked for and lived and died rejoicing in that hope. Accepting the Sabbath doctrine in 1858, he remained a faithful observer of the seventh day until his death. By request of the deceased the funeral services were conducted by the writer, assisted by Elder A.S. Marshall, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, and Elder J.G. Van Ness, pastor of the Methodist Church.
