Nelson Turner

Nelson Larry Turner, 73, of Vevay, died Monday, March 10, 2014, at his residence.

He was born Jan. 1, 1941, in Gallatin County, Ky., to Paul J. and Elsie Mae Phillips Turner. He moved to Vevay when he was 4 and was raised on his family's farm. He was a 1959 graduate of Vevay High School. He was employed for 40 years at Cummins as a HVAC journeyman and five years at the Holset Plant in Madison. He was employed for the Charlestown Ammunition Plant in Charlestown. He was a member of the Butlerville Masonic Lodge No. 135 F&AM and the Masonic Lodge No. 122 F&AM. He assisted at the Swiss Wine Festival and YMCA and worked on the Democratic Election Board. He enjoyed gardening, raising roses and woodworking.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Sides Turner, whom he married Jan. 27, 1962; one daughter, Anita Turner McCullum of St. Leonard, Md.; one sister, Pauline O'Day of Spring Hill, Fla.; twin grandsons; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Alton Eugene Turner Sr.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Burial will be in Vevay Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Switzerland County Masonic Lodge 122 F. & A.M. Building Fund. Contributions can be made through the funeral home.
