Mary Nell Barnett, 85, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson. Visitation is 12 noon on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon. Services are 2 pm Saturday at the funeral home with burial in Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Pearl. Rev. Steve Jackson will officiate.

Mrs. Barnett was a native of Scott County and the daughter of Hardy and Anna Gray Franklin. She was better known as "Grandma", "Monk" & "Ms. B" to her family and friends and had a heart of gold. She loved the Lord and also everyone she knew and never met a stranger. Her life revolved around her family, especially her grandchildren. Mary Nell was known for her compassion, generosity, encouragement and for a beautiful smile that would light up a room.

Mary Nell was an active member of McLaurin Heights Baptist Church in Pearl. She loved her Sunday School Class and taught Kindergarten there for 15 years. Mary Nell also had worked for 15 years at Bell South.

Survivors include her daughter, Cathy Files (Jeff) of Madison; grandchildren, Jeffery Files and Mary Catherine Files; sister, Eloise Thornton of Brandon and a number of nieces and nephews who she loved very much. She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy G. Barnett in 2002; granddaughter, Anna Clare Files and sister, Libby Jean Geter.
