The Rev. James W. Hertel, 99, Greenwood, passed away July 20, 2014. Born Oct. 19,1914 in Dixon, OH, he enjoyed spiritual and classical music and collecting memorabilia and artifacts from their trips. An avid reader, they traveled internationally, including 30 trips to the Holy Land.
Rev. James W. Hertel served as Pastor, Evangelist and college president for 62 years.
He served in churches in Elnora, English, Columbus, Evansville, Indianapolis (Blaine & Belmot) and Bicknell. After retirement, he served at Salem United Methodist Church for 12 years. He was President of Franklin Pilgrim College from 1959-1966.

Survivors include his wife of 77 years, Martha L. Hertel; children, Dr. Marti Eicholz (Robert) of San Diego, and Dr. J. Wesley Hertel (Pat) of Greenwood; seven grandchildren, Gretchen Beaman of Franklin, Amanda Haase of Franklin, Justin Hertel, of Chicago, Robert Eicholz of California, Alan Eicholz of California, Anna Lovell of South Carolina and Emily Semmler of Greenwood and 23 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Alfred and Emmanuel "Dale" Hertel and sisters Mildred Meyer and Velma Manuel.
