John Byars Windrow was the oldest son of John and Zelpha Thompson Windrow. He is found most often by his middle name which appears spelled at least 3 different ways; Byers, Bias, Byass.

He married Jane W. Traylor on 8 Jan 1836 in Rutherford Co., Tn. They were the parents of nine children.

He is found in the following US Federal census records in Tennessee.
- 1840 for Williamson Co., Tn as part of 4 free white and 2 slaves
- 1850 for Rutherford Co., Tn with spouse, Jane W. Windrow, and 7 children
- 1850 for Rutherford Co., Tn Slave schedule
- 1860 for Rutherford Co., Tn with spouse, 3 children and grandchild, Lizzie Floyd
- 1860 for Rutherford Co., Tn Slave Schedule
- 1870 for Rutherford Co., Tn with his spouse and two daughters and one son, and one granddaughter, Elizabeth "Lizzie" Floyd
- 1880 for Rutherford Co., Tn with spouse, 1 child, Martin Luther, and grandchild, Elizabeth Floyd, he is listed as sick, "This Person Has Not Had A Passage In 18 Days No One Can Tall The Disease Has One Physician"

It appears that Byas Windrow died without living a will. A bond was set in Rutherford Co., Tn on 4 July 1881 for J.M. Watson to settle his estate. J.M. Watson is possibly the husband of his daughter, Matilda.

The book, "Rutherford County, Tennessee Cemetery Records," states: "This cemetery is across the road from Windrow Church. Many of the graves were marked with fieldstones and decaying boards. In the 1970's it was reported as being in very bad shape. There are over 100 unmarked graves." Since his father, John Windrow, gave the property for the church, I believe he is buried here, but it is unproven.
