Funeral services for Donald Everett Wheeler, 64, of Piedmont, were Sunday, October 5, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Pike officiating. Burial followed at Piedmont Memory Gardens.
Mr. Wheeler passed away Thursday, October 2, 2014, at Gadsden Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include his wife, Paula White Wheeler of Piedmont; son, Andrew (Regina) Wheeler of Helena; daughter, Ashley (Mark) Grainger of Chelsea; sisters, Nancy (Steve) Narrie of Snellville, GA and Susan (Robert) Holt of Huntsville; uncle, Thomas Wheeler of Gadsden; grandchildren Griffin Grainger, Whitley Grainger, and Davis Wheeler; five nieces; two nephews; and a number of great- nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Colby Acker, Steve Narrie, Robert Holt, Lyle Holt, Troy Dobbs, Brian Donaldson, Louie Parker, and David Coheley. Honorary pallbearers were the Piedmont Blue Knights alumni.
Mr. Wheeler was a 1969 graduate of Emma Sansom High School where he was head drummer. He graduated from Auburn University in 1975 and served in the Army Reserve. He taught music and was a band director at Emma Sansom High School and Piedmont High School where he led the Piedmont Blue Knights to many awards and honors before his retirement. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Maurine Hyde Wheeler of Gadsden and a great-niece, Rebecca Holt of Huntsville.
