Donald Hugh Black first-born to Charles Hillyard Black (1880-1939) and Victoria M. Martin (1881-1966) on 25 Feb 1906 in Escanaba, Delta Co., MI. Along with his parents and infant brother, Robert James (1908-1989), Donald moved from Escanaba first, to Hopkinsville, Christian Co., Kentucky by the 1910 Fed. Census, then to Clinton, Clinton Co., Iowa around 1911-12, to Evansville, Vanderburgh Co., Indiana by 1913 then to Regina and Moosejaw, both in the Saskatchewan Province, Canada by 1919 thru 1922. Finally, they permanently relocated to Oregon: Portland, Multnomah Co., and then Corvallis, Benton Co., where Charles worked as a piano tuner (after many years as traveling piano salesman) until his death in 1939. During this time in Oregon, Donald attended Oregon State University and was employed as a high school teacher in Newberg, Yamhill Co., OR by 1930. He married Marjorie Olive Southam (1908-1989) on 27 Aug 1932 in Corvallis, Benton Co., OR. They had their first two children here: 1) Gary Black (1934- UNK) and 2) Sharon Leigh Black Rowson (b. 1935 )(Donald Eugene Rowson). By the 1940 Census, Donald is an Advertising Copywriter for a newspaper in Salem, Marion Co., OR. Here they had another child, 3) Joel Anthony Black (b. 1940 ) Donald continued his advertising career in Los Angeles Co., California by 1950. He died in the Sherman Oaks area of Los Angeles Co., CA in 1961 at the age of 55. His body was cremated and the ashes scattered at sea. His wife, Marjorie, remained in this city until her death in 1989.
