In 1786, Maria married Richard Alsop, a young intellectual author who wrote for the Political Greenhouse and the Echo. This union was blessed with the following known children:

Mary Caroline Alsop (1791–1819)
After Richard died in 1815, Mary, as she was known, moved to Middletown; where she married Connecticut's U. S. Senator Samuel Whittlesey Dana on July 13th 1821. No known children were born to this union.
Widowed for over 30 years, Maria Pomeroy Alsop Dana died on November 25th 1861 at the age of 94 years old.
