Charles Franklin Hunnell Jr., age 79 of Englewood, OH, was welcomed into his eternal home on January 18, 2016 peacefully in his own home, surrounded by his loving family. He is preceded in death by his parents Charles F. Hunnell and Harriett Neal Hunnell of Waynesburg, PA. Charles was born on July 16, 1936 and was the only child. A graduate of Waynesburg High School in the class of 1954, Charles attended West Virginia University and Waynesburg College. He graduated from Weaver Airline School in Kansas City, MO in 1958. Charles was employed with Delta Airlines for 33 years and was the last of the pioneers that opened the Delta Airlines Dayton, OH station in 1958. He loved the airline industry; was proud of working for Delta, and the Dayton Station crew was his work family. He married his sweetheart Marlene Bowers Hunnell, who survives, and they enjoyed 56 years of marriage and many adventures and wonderful times together. Surviving are his only child and loving daughter Charla Hunnell Clapp and son-in-law Bruce Clapp. His pride and joy were his grandchildren; Ashley Clapp Beaudion (Josh) of Springboro, OH, Casey Clapp (and special friend Rachel) of Cincinnati Ohio, and Hailey Joy Clapp of Englewood. Bringing new joy to Charles were great grandsons Gabe and Blake Beaudion. Charles was a member of Claughton Chapel Church in Waynesburg, PA and an associate member of Shiloh United Church of Christ in Dayton, OH. Charles enjoyed spending time with the Delta Retirees group, Northmont Optimist and was a 40-year member of Englewood Masonic Lodge #743. He was Vice President of C.E. Bowers School Bus Services in Waynesburg, PA for 12 years and enjoyed spending time back “home.” Charles loved to travel the US and Europe with favorite stops in Michigan and Florida and wonderful memories of cruising with neighbors and their grand-daughter Ashley. His love of sports included bowling, golf, and playing baseball from little league through high school, and softball in church leagues. His love of baseball was carried on by his grandson Casey and he was a loyal follower of Canes baseball when Casey played and on through his coaching, following the team year-round and loving the tournament trips and regular games. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and loved listening to the St. Louis Cardinals on the radio. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at the Kindred Funeral Home (400 Union Blvd., Englewood) with Rev. Jay McMillen officiating. Entombment will follow the services at Royal Oak Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Brookville. The family will receive friends Friday, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton (324 Wilmington Ave, Dayton, OH 45420) or the charity of the donor’s choice in memory of Charles Hunnell.
