Lawanda Mae (Mullins) Cornwell, of Newport, Arkansas, departed this life on Thursday, May 19, 2016 in Batesville, at the age of 74. She was born October 9, 1941 in Newport, the daughter of Albert Earl, Sr., and Della Mae (Arter) Mullins.

Miss Lawanda Mae Mullins married Mr. Grover Lewis "G.L." Cornwell on July 14, 1962, and they enjoyed 43 years together.Mrs. Cornwell retired from the Newport Special School District after 18 years of service as a cafeteria worker. She enjoyed reading, camping, and spending time at the river house in Hardy. Mrs. Cornwell was an excellent cook, and loved taking care of her grandchildren. She was a faithful member of Central Baptist Church of Newport.

Mrs. Cornwell was preceded in death by her husband, G. L. Cornwell on June 15, 2006; and her parents.

She is survived by two sons, Ronnie Cornwell and wife, Genia, of Tuckerman, and Earl Cornwell and wife, Mona, of Newport; two brothers, Albert Mullins and wife Jo Ann of Newport, and Alvin Mullins and wife, Becky, of Newport; three sisters, Fay Whaley and husband, Tom, of Newport, Freda Scoggins and husband, Wayne of Newport, and Reda Cornwell and husband, Buck, of Mountain Home; four grandchildren, Chelsie Rae Hutchinson, Tyler Cornwell, Krystal Rufkahr, and Kelli Ash; two great-grandchildren, Cole and Rylin; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit at the funeral home Sunday, 6:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 23, 2016 at Jackson's Newport Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Memory Garden Cemetery at Johnstown.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Chad Mullins, Billy Miller, Adam Rufkahr, Rickey Rowland, Jessie Ash, and Cody Garland.

Honorary pallbearers are Don Shelton, Morris Dunivan, and Joey Britt.
