John Doyle was a Civilian Casualty of the 1916 Easter Rising, which commenced in Dublin on Monday 24th April 1916.


Marriage Certificate.
John Doyle, a bachelor, a Labourer, of 10 Henry Place off Henry Street, Dublin, son of John Doyle, a Labourer, married Teresa Donohue, a spinster, of 5 Graham's Row, off Willington Street, Dublin, daughter of James Donohue, an Artisan, on 28 July 1901, at St. Joseph's Church, Berkeley Road, Dublin.
The witnesses were,
James Higgins,
Esther Mary Donohue.


In the 1911 census, the Doyle family were living in a tenement at St. Mary's Terrace, [Inns Quay] Dublin, which was shared with two other families.
They lived in 1 room.
present were,
John Doyle, aged 35, a Van Man, married,
Teresa, his wife, aged 32, married,
They had been married 9 years and had 3 children, 2 of whom were alive.
John, son, aged 8.
Their daughter Elizabeth, aged 8 was enumerated elsewhere.


Death Certificate.
John Doyle, aged 39, married, a Van Man, of 16 Moore Street, Dublin, died at the Rotunda Hospital, Dublin, on 29 April 1916.
The cause of death was a Gunshot Wound in the Abdomen, no medical attendant.
The informant of his death was John Donoghue, brother-in-law, present at death, of 4, Lower Dominick Street, Dublin, who registered it on 9 May 1916.
Note.
Having no medical attendant, when said to have died in a hospital, tends to suggest he was "brought in dead".

This area of the city, behind the GPO, was where some of the most intense fighting took place during the Rising, and had a significant number of civilian casualties.


He was buried in a Common Grave in St. Paul's Section, which contains the bodies of,

His grave is unmarked.
