Shirley A. Jones, age 86 of Spicer died on Friday, February 13, 2015, at GlenOaks Care Center in New London. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 21, 2015, at Johnson Funeral Home in New London. Burial will be at a later date. A visitation will be held from 10:30 – 11:00am on Saturday prior to the service.
Shirley Ann Jones was born on June 18, 1928, in Spring Grove, MN the daughter of Herman and Ruth (Thompson) Hookom. She attended elementary school in Willmar and then went on to high school at New London.
After high school Shirley married Elton Olson. Four boys were born to this union. They were later divorced. In 1954 Shirley was united in marriage to Raymond Boever. This union was blessed with two boys and three girls. The family made their home in Collinsville, IL. They were later divorced and Shirley moved back to Spicer. In 1971, Shirley married Newell Bengtson. The family made their home in Grove City where Shirley worked with Newell in his carpentry business. They were later divorced and Shirley moved to Montana. There she married Stanley Jones. They lived in Drummond, MT until their divorce and she moved to Polson, MT. She lived there with her daughter and granddaughter until 2008 when she moved back to Spicer.
Shirley enjoyed going to garage sales, finishing crossword puzzles and word searches, reading and going to bingo. She loved her family and enjoyed all the time she was able to spend with them.
Shirley died on Friday, February 13, 2015, at GlenOaks Care Center in New London. She is survived by her children, Dean Boever of Coeur d'Alene, ID, Kathy Boever of Polson, MT, Peter (Brenda) Boever of Morris, MN, Virginia Boever of Alexandria, MN, Virgil Olson of Florida, and Jerryl Olson; grandchildren, Tymeku Jackson, Bess Boever, Jackson Boever, Chanae Howard, Tammy Olson, Darcy Olson, Tommy Boever, and Jennifer Boever; great grandchildren; sister, Gwen Ferdeen; and brother, David (Judy) Hookom.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Elyle; son, Clarence; daughter, LaVon; four sisters; and five brothers.
