Jazz Musician. A saxophonist, he is best known for his work as a member of Louis Prima's band. Born in New Orleans, he was an accomplished musician by his mid-teens. Upon graduation from high school he toured with Tommy Dorsey and fellow New Orleans musician Al Hirt. In the 1950's, Butera helped Prima's band which included singer Keely Smith become one of the most popular Las Vegas acts during that era. Prima's recording of the tune "Just a Gigolo/ I Ain't Got Nobody" in 1956 which Butera provided the arrangements for became a popular hit for David Lee Roth nearly thirty years later in 1985.
