Mahala and George's 6th child, James, died at the age of 1 month and 3 days in Brown County, Indiana on 20 Sep 1852. Mahala gave birth to another child in January of 1854, shortly before the Butchers and their 6 living children set off for Dallas County, Texas. 4 more children were born during their time in Texas.
George and their oldest son, Solomon, both served in the 12th Cavalry, Company F of Parson's Mounted Volunteers (Regiment of the 4th Dragoons) during the Civil War (Confederate).
Mahala lived until 1878. At the time of her death, she was 56 years, 3 months and 20 days old.
She was survived by her husband, George; 5 daughters, Nin, Elizabeth, Mary, Martha and Maggie; 4 sons, Solomon, Lewis, Daniel and John; and her father, David Barrow.
In addition to her infant son, James, she was also preceded in death by her mother, Elizabeth Barrow; and another son, David.
Mahala's husband, George, married Elizabeth Glandon on 28 Nov 1878. He then had 3 more children with her before he died in 1896 at the age of 75.
George and Mahala's ninth child, Daniel, was a marshal in Indian Territory (Oklahoma) in the early 1900's. The Butchers' youngest child, John, was a long-time teacher. He moved to Nevada and founded a business college.
