William Ransom Slack of Fort Oglethorpe, died Saturday in a local hospital. He was 69.

He was a lifelong resident of the Fort Oglethorpe and Rossville areas.

He was a member of Fort Oglethorpe Baptist Church and its Builders Sunday School class.

He was a member of Sheetmetal Workers Union Local 5 and a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Navy.

He was the son of the late A.E. and Julie Slack, and the brother of the late H.A. and James L. Slack.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Brotherton Slack; daughter, Robbie G. Slack, Fort Oglethorpe; two sons, William Ransom Slack Jr., LaFayette, La., and Travis L. Slack, Fort Oglethorpe; three sisters, Thelma Slack and Abbie Jones, both of Chattanooga, and Annie Geyer, Rossville; granddaughter, Betsy Slack, LaFayette; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at Heritage Funeral Home with the Rev. Dan Scott officiating.

Burial was in Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park.

Pallbearers were Lamar North, Fred North, James B. Snyder, Roy Thompson, Charlie Geyer and Donald Laster.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the Builders Sunday School class of Fort Oglethorpe Baptist Church.

Heritage Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
