She graduated from Farnam High School, attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, graduated from Peru State College and earned her Master's degree from Kearney State College.

Dorothy worked as a teacher and in social services and was a homemaker; a retired as director of the Kearney Jubilee Center, which she founded and was a green thumb gardener. She loved people, especially those in need, loved animals, and enjoyed traveling and fishing as hobbies. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her husband; sons, Robert and Chris, both of Lincoln; daughter, Anne of Lincoln; brother, Ken Stevens of Farnam; and sister, Gwen Bowen of Palo Alto, Calif.; also daughters-in-law, Shari High and Mary Ann High, both of Lincoln; grandchildren, Michael, Rachel, Erik, Nick and Karl; sister-in-law, Doris High of Grand Island; and brother-in-law, Keith Fastenau of Bertrand.
Preceded in death by her parents and infant son, Paul.
