Rev. Walter E Childers COTTRILL, 77, 4004 11th AVE, was pronounced dead on arrival yesterday morning at Camden-Clark Memorial Hosp. He suffered a heart attack at his home.
Born in Doddridge CO, he was the son of the late Edward COTTRILL and Mary ROSS Cottrill. He was a member of the Broadway Baptist Church.
He was a retired employee of the American Viscose Corp., for which he worked 20 years.
Surviving him are his widow: Mrs. Odie YOST Childers; a son O W Childers, Nitro: five daughters, Mrs. Lena Martin, Columbus, Mrs.Clara Morris, Mrs. Sylvia Hanlon, Mrs. Marguerite Martin and Mrs. Virginia Foggin, all of Parkersburg.
Also surviving are 13 grandchildren; and a brother, Charles Cottrill, Salem, WV.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2PM Saturday at the Broadway Baptist Church with the Rev. William L Clark officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call at the Kimes Funeral Home until noon Saturday. The body will then be taken to the church to lie in state from 1 to 2PM.

Walter Ernest Childers was born Walter Ernest Cottrill in 1883. In early 1884 his mother Mary Ross Cottrill died. His father Edward Cottrill decided it would be best for the children: Icy Victoria, Charles and baby Ernie to be fostered out. Icy and Charles to their grandparents Ross and the baby, who was probably only about 3 months old, to a relative on Mary's side of the family. He kept the name "Cottrill" until sometime after 1900. Before 1907, when he married Odie Yost, he changed to Childers. There is no formal record of this, to my knowledge.s/o Edward & Mary Ross Childers
