Eugenia Sentell Kennon, a resident of Baton Rouge, died at 3 a.m. Friday, May 24, 2002, at St. James Place. She was 93 and a native of Bossier Parish. A homemaker, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she served as Louisiana's first lady from 1952 to 1956 during the term of her late husband, former Gov. Robert F. Kennon.

Survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert F. Kennon Jr. and Suzanne Kennon; her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Charles S. Kennon and Donna Kennon; her son, Kenneth W. Kennon; six grandchildren, Melanie Kennon McGavran, Genie Kennon Fleishel, Suzanne Kennon Hughes, Charles S. Kennon Jr., Barry Rudd Kennon and Alexandra Grace Kennon; and nine great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her husband and her parents, Nathaniel William Sentell and Annie Sherburne Sentell.

Pallbearers will be Dr. Jed Morris, state Sen. Jay Dardenne, J. Huntington Odom, John S. White Jr., Sterling W. Gladden III, David A. Smitherman, Sherburne Sentell and Dr. W.M. McBride Jr.

She was a graduate of Louisiana Tech with double degrees in home economics and music. She was voted the most popular coed in her junior year at Louisiana Tech. She was a member of Kappa Delta sorority and First Presbyterian Church of Baton Rouge.
