Capt. Charles Edward Meriwether, died in Rumsey, Kentucky January 1, 1862 at the battle of Sacramento. He was a member of Forrest's Cavalry. He leaves a wife and six children. He was born in Montgomery County, the son of Charles N. Meriwether of Todd County, and a brother of Caroline Meriwether Goodlett and a brother-in-law to R.W. Humphreys of Clarksville, Tennessee.
Interment will be at the Meriwether Cemetery, near Meriville in District 2, Montgomery County.
Note: The newspaper article states Capt. Meriwether died during battle on 1 Jan 1862 at Rumsey, but the battle took place 28 Dec 1861 at Sacramento, nine miles from Rumsey.
