Isabel (Montemayor) Cruz, 88, St. Joseph, died Tuesday at 8:15 p.m. Aug. 12, 2003,with her family surrounding her at a heath-care center in St. Joseph.
Born in Dallas, Texas, on Nov. 2, 1914, Mrs. Cruz had lived most of her life in St. Joseph.
A homemaker,she loved cooking, gardening, knitting and doing things for all her family. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
Mrs. Cruz was preceded in death by her husband, Alfonzo Cruz; her parents, Filomeno and Juanita Montemayor; a daughter, Frances Hagg; a son, John Cruz: three brothers, Charles,Blas, and Frank Montemayor; and two sister Delores Montemayor, and Antonia Montemayor Lawrence.
Surviving: five sons, Alfonzo Cruz Jr.,Lebanon, Mo.; Ralph Cruz, Canon City, Colo.; Floyd Cruz, Savannah, Mo.;Alex Cruz, Firestone, Co.; and Sylvester Cruz, St. Joseph; five daughters, Mary Lou Cross, Agnes Gerard both of St. Joseph; Tina Donovan, Mesa Ariz.; Jennie Hymer, Longmont, Colo.; and Patricia Westhoff, St. Joseph, Mo.;a brother Merced Montemayor, Mesa, Ariz.; sisters, Elsie Reno and Antonia Lawrence, both of St. Joseph; 39 grandchildren; 71 great-grandchildren; and 22 great-great-grandchildren. This includes 16 families with five generations.
Mass of Christian Burial:Visitation will be Friday, August 15, 2003 at Rupp Funeral Home, St. Joseph, Mo.;Saturday, August 16, 2003 Mass at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, with Rev. Matthew Brumleve officiating, 10 a.m. Saturday, St. Patrick's Catholic Church, St. Joseph.
Burial Mount Olivet Cemetery, St. Joseph. Casket Bearers,Georgette Miner, Tammy Cruz, Christie Cruz, Johnny Cruz, Patricia Donovan, and matthew Westhoff. Honorary casket bearers were all remaining 126 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Isabel Minor of Troy, Ks. is a namesake of her great-great grandmother.
