Mary Ann Smith was born on December 21,1843. She married James P Riley on March 21, 1861 in Lincon Co, Tennesse. They were the parents of ten children; Thomas P (Jr), William W, Martha Ann, Nancy C, Mary Ann, Luther T, Luretta, Infant(1876-1876), James Monroe, and George W.

Her obituary follows:

Mrs. Mary Ann Elizabeth Riley, daughter of Wilson F. and Elizabeth Smith, was born December 21, 1943, and died January 29, 1910, aged 66 years, 1 month, and 8 days. She was married to Thomas P. Riley on March 21, 1861, and had been a faithful member of the Methodist Church about 49 years. She was a kind a loving mother. Her only regret was leaving her children, but was perfectly willing to die and ready to go at any time her Master called. She was the mother of twelve children, and four daughters and four sons survive her. She leaves many friends to mourn her death, but their loss is her eternal gain. Burial at Shady Grove.
