Joseph James Martin, born/baptized on 01 Sep 1874 in St-Michel-de-Archange, Napierville, Quebec, Canada (baptized under the name Joseph Adrien Martin) was the seventh child born to Joseph Martin(1844-1927) and Philomene Isabelle(1845-1925). His father, Joseph, moved the family several times between Quebec Province, Canada and the United States (mostly Upper Peninsula of Michigan)for working opportunities. This time was from 1863 when the parents married until 1876-77. They settled in Bark River, Delta Co., MI. Here is where son Joseph J. met and married Cora Elizabeth Marks(1882-1955)on 18 Oct !899 in Escanaba, Delta Co., MI. Their first four children were born in Escanaba: 1)Lawrence Bernard Martin(1900-1951); 2)non-surving child Martin between 1900 and 1910; 3)Violet Rose Martin(1905-1979); 4)Isabelle Cora Martin Wallace(1908-1979)(Gordon Beldin Wallace); the family is known to have moved to Green Bay, Brown Co, WI and Jefferson Co., IL before settling into Tomah, Monroe Co., WI by the time he made his WWI Draft Registration on 03 Sep 1918. The birthplace of child 5) Genevieve Marley Martin Crowe(1916-1989)(William Meyrick Crowe)is unconfirmed. Joseph spent the major part of his career as an inspector for the railroad.
