5th Premier of Manitoba. A member of the Conservative Party, he served in this position from October 1878 until December 1887. His other provincial posts include Minister of Public Works/Minister of Agriculture (1871 to 1874), Provincial Secretary (1875 to 1876 and & 1886 to 1887), Minister of Public Works (1875 to 1878), Provincial Treasurer (1878 to 1886), President of the Council (1879 to 1887), and Railway Commissioner (1886 to 1887).
