An attorney in Columbia, he married Caroline Leaphart (1833-1915), daughter of Michael and Susan Leaphart of Lexington County. They were the parents of eight children. Henry Earle was brigadier general, 65th Regiment, 21st Brigade of the Alabama Militia in the Confederate Army. He died on November 6, 1888, and is buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Columbia.
