CHATSWORTH - Christine J. Sterrenberg Ashman, 87, of 405 E. Elm, Chatsworth, died at 8:53 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 12, 1998) at Fairview Haven Nursing Home, Fairbury.
Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Chatsworth, the Rev. Scott Olson officiating. Burial will be in Chatsworth Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hager Memorial Home, Chatsworth.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, the Chatsworth Fire Department, or to the Chatsworth Library.
She was born Jan. 5, 1911, at Cullom, the daughter of George and Tillina Jacobs Sterrenberg. She married Robert Ashman on Dec. 9, 1932, at Chatsworth. He died in 1979.
Surviving are one daughter, Delores (John) Rath, Fairbury; one son, Robert (Ann) Ashman, Kankakee; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Ashman was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and six sisters.
She attended Illinois State Teachers College in Normal.
Mrs. Ashman taught for 23 years in country schools in both Cullom and Fairbury. After retiring in 1972, she continued working as a substitute teacher in Fairbury for a number of years.
She was a member of Esther Circle, WELCA, and Loner's Group of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Retired Teachers Association, Senior Citizens and Kitchen Band.
