Michael Peter Alessandro, 92, of Rancho Mirage, Calif. passed away December 19, 2010 in Rancho Mirage. He was born July 21, 1918, to Giuseppe Alessandro and Giovanna Cardillo in Cleveland, Ohio. He married Eileen Shaeffer on March 20, 1954 in Cleveland. He was a Carpenter for 40 years. He was a member of Sons of Italy. He served in the U.S. Navy from June 19, 1943 to August 17, 1945 as a Motor Machinists' Mate Second Class. He served honorably in the U.S. Navy for over two years during WWII. He was wounded at the battle of Okinawa, while serving on board the U.S.S. Wesson, where he was awarded various medals. He was a Master Finish Carpenter and ended his working career at the V.A. Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. He is survived by his wife, Eileen of Rancho Mirage; daughter, JoAnn Stone of Palm Desert, Calif.; son, Eugene Alessandro of Palm Desert; brother, Carl Alessandro of Indio, Calif.; and grandchild, Michael Deets. A visitation will be held from 2-6:00 PM, December 22, 2010 with a rosary at 4:00 PM at Forest Lawn Mortuary in Cathedral City. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM, December 23, 2010 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cathedral City.
