Albert Achilles, Sr.
WEST GROTON-Albert Freeland Achilles, Sr., 68, of 896 Scott Highway, Groton, died Wed. Aug. 30, 2000 at Cottage Hospital, Woodsville, N.H.
He was born November 2, 1931 in Ryegate, son of Freeland James and Georgina Harper (Flanders) Achilles.
He was a graduate of Groton High School and Vermont Technical College in Randolph. He was a self employed dairy farmer in West Groton, retiring in the fall of 1988.
He was a good neighbor, family man, and he enjoyed children. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He was predeceased by a son Neil H. Achilles, July 7, 1988 and one daughter Hazel S. Achilles, April 11, 1956.
Surviving relatives include his wife of 48 years, Hazel (Bennett) Achilles; two sons, Albert F. (wife Diane) Achilles, Jr., North Danville; and David W. (wife Penny) Achilles, Groton; three daughters: Donna (husband Cliff) Batchelder, Haverhill, N.H; Nancy (husband Dale) Ordway, Fairlee; and Caroline (husband Marco) Salcido, Tucson, Az; 11 grandchildren and three great grandchildren; one brother, William J. Achilles, Athens, Tenn.; two sisters; Alice Morse, Warrensburg, Mo.; and Ruth Bailey, North Danville; plus several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.
There were no calling hours. Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 1, 2000 at 10 a.m. from the Ricker Funeral Home, Birch Lane, Woodsville, N.H. Rev. Stephen Cardin of the Calvary Baptist Church in Woodsville, N.H. officiated. Burial was Friday Sept. 1, 2000 at Pleasant View Cemetery, Randolph.
