Barb was born November 9, 1937 in Calumet, a daughter of Einar and Sylvia (Leskela) Karpinen, was raised in Calumet, and was a 1956 graduate of the Calumet High School. Following graduation, she moved to Detroit where she was employed with the Burroughs Corporation as a typesetter until 1960.
On February 6, 1960, Barb married John William Anderson in Detroit, and together the couple established a home and eventually raised their family in Redford. As a homemaker, Barb enjoyed gardening and bowling, belonging to several bowling leagues over the years, and was active in her children's school activities and the Parent Teacher's Association. She was also an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the Finnish Center Association in Farmington Hills. In February of 1984, the family moved to Marquette, where Barb was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Survivors included her husband, John William
"Bill" Anderson; her children, Eric (Mary) Anderson of Redford, Karen (Dennis) Tulpa of Redford, Kim (P.J.) Specker of Marquette, and Kenneth (Melisa) Anderson of Redford; eight grandchildren, Dennis, Katie, and Brian Tulpa, Jacob and Allyson Anderson, Brett and Erin Specker, and Samantha Anderson; a brother, Richard (Lorraine) Karpinen of Marquette; and several nieces and nephews.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Daniel Karpinen.
