The remains of Mrs. Elsie Beatham who passed away at the Home for Aged Women in bangor Tuesday morning, Jan. 1st were brought to this town Wednesday afternoon and taken to teh home of her son, Orrion W. Beatham. Mrs. Beatham was born in Monroe and was 95 years 5 months of age. In early life she was united in marriage to Curtis Beatham and the greater part of her married life was spent in thsi town, where she was respected by all. Mr. and Mrs. Beatham were among the early settlers and were prominent in the affairs of this town. Mr. Beatham passed away many years ago and for a few years Mrs. Beatham continued residing here. About 30 years ago she went to Bangor to live and for a number of years kept a first-class boarding house on Main street as long as health would permit. Mrs. Beatham was a very active woman until recent years, and a woman of strong peronality and firm in all her convictions of right and wrong, and held in high esteem by all who knew her. Although near the century mark she still retained all her faculties. She is survived by her son Orrion W. Beatham of thsi town and one daughter, Mrs. Nettie Averill of Malden, Mass, also six grandchildren, Mrs. Clarence Gage of Malden, Mass., Mrs. James McKenzie of Lincoln, Mrs. Wallace Bryant of North Jay, E. L. Beatham of Malden, Mass., L. K. Beatham of Brwer and C. C. Beatham of Bangor. Funeral services were held at the home of her son and wife, Thursday afternoon, Rev. M. F. Snow, pastor of teh M. E. church officiating. In his talk he paid great tribute to a mother's love and devotion, and in closing read Tennysons's beautiful poems, "Crossing the Bar." A. B. Scott and charge and the bearers were the grandsons and Clarence Gage, the husband of one granddaughter. The flowers were beautiful, one pillow bore teh name of Mother, and another, Grandmother, teh last token of love from teh ones nearest and dearest, and tokens from friends. Interment was in teh family lot beside teh remains of her husband.
