Adolph Billinger, 92, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2017, at Rooks County Medical Center, Plainville. He was born Feb. 21, 1925, in Graham County near St. Peter to Michael and Barbara (Richmeier) Billinger.

He grew up in St. Peter and attended St. Anthony Catholic School before going to Morland High School.

He married Margaret Spies on Oct. 3, 1949, in St. Peter. They settled in the Plainville area and in 1957, the family moved to the farm near Zurich.

He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, serving during World War II where he received a purple heart for his service. He was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, tending his vegetable garden, and had a talent for carpentry work. He enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren. He always took them on his outdoor excursions and made sure to butcher a couple of steers every year in order to cook for his family and feed them.

Survivors include his wife, of 68 years; three daughters, Diane Gross and husband, Paul, Gorham, Linda Brin and husband, Arlen, Zurich, and Cindy Balthazor and husband, Dennis, Palco; a brother, John Billinger and wife, Sara, Hill City; seven sisters, Lucine Horak and Agnes Rome, both of Denver, Caroline Wittman, Topeka, Maryann Rome and husband, Neilus, and Barbara Rome and husband, Ron, all of Aurora, Colo., Dorothy Fagan and husband, Dennis, Florida, and Shirley Kuppetz and husband, John, Ellis;

his grandchildren, David and Jennifer Mongeau, Lisa and Jason Nyp, Marla and Ryan Verlinde, Mark and Kate Mongeau, Jason and Megan Brin, Jeff Brin, Justin and Cathy Brin, Jessica and Dallas Lehmann, Steve and Sarah Balthazor, Sara and Karim Touijer, Dana and Zurab Tsereteli and James and Heather Balthazor; and 26 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Bridget Mann, Elaine Knoll and Clara Herman; two brothers, Pete Billinger and Lewis Billinger; four brothers-in-law, Vic Wittman, Paul Rome, Ike Mann and Stanley Horak; and a sister-in-law, Ablena Billinger.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Plainville; burial in St. Ann Cemetery, Zurich. Visitation will be from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday at Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home, Plainville, and from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church. A vigil/rosary will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the Sacred Heart Church or school in care of the funeral home.
