GERALDINE C. "GERRI" (BRODERICK) ARVESEN, 78

Mrs. Geraldine C. "Gerri" Arvesen, 78, of LaPorte, died at 6:40 a.m. on Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at LaPorte Hospital.

She was born July 20, 1931, in East Chicago, IN, to Robert and Geraldine (Szawareiko) Broderick.

Mrs. Arvesen retired from LaPorte hospital as an administrative assistant. She was a member of Friends of the Library and volunteered for LaPorte County Public Library. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and a true and loving friend to many. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church.

On April 23, 1949, she married William L. Arvesen, who preceded her in death on Oct. 23, 2008.

Also preceding her in death were her parents and two brothers, Eugene and Raymond Broderick.

She leaves behind two daughters, Kathleen (David) Meinhard of Brunswick, GA, and Kimberly (Steven) Kessler of Phoenix, AZ; one son, Kevin (Lisa) Arvesen of Jasper, IN; five grandchildren, Kate and Patrick Malstaff, Lauren and Bryant Arvesen, and Layn Witte; two sisters-in-law, Joanne Broderick of Hammond, IN, and Sarah Arversen of Osceola, IN; one aunt, Norma Middleton of LaPorte; and special friends Pam Arvesen of LaPorte, IN, and Jean Kroll of Indiana.

A funeral Mass will be held Saturday, July 10, at 10 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church, LaPorte, with Rev. Joseph Angotti officiating. Visitation will be at Essling Funeral Home, LaPorte, on Friday, July 9, from 3 to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. A rosary service will take place Friday at 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in St Joseph Catholic Cemetery, LaPorte, following the Mass.
