For many years, he was the Baptist Minister of the Baptist Church at 16, Harcourt Street, Dublin.

In the 1901 census, the Brown family were recorded at "Glengyle", Orwell Road, Rathgar, Dublin.
present were,
Hugh Dunlop Brown, aged, a barrister [not practising] a Baptist Minister, M.A., TCD, not married, born in Co. Dublin.
Mrs. Marianne Brown, his mother, aged 75, a widow, born in city of Dublin.
4 servants were also present, including Dorothy Graham, aged 32.

He was aged 53, a Baptist Minister, and had been born in County of Dublin.

In 1918, his address was noted as 72, Upper Leeson Street, Dublin.
