Alice Marie (Beuch) Busch, age 86, passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose, California, of complications from cancer. Alice was born August 20,1929 at Prior Lake. She was the youngest of eight children of Anna and Ernest Beuch.

At age 16 (1945), she begin working at her sister and brother-in law's general store known as "Bussman's Store" in Lydia, Minnesota owned by Ferdie and Martha Bussman. Alice was the smiling face that waited on the customers. In February 1954 Alice met Frank Busch a native of Morris/Donnelly, Minnesota and a student attending Dunwoody College of Technology on the Korean GI Bill that asked her for a dance at the Prom Ballroom in St. Paul. This was the beginning of a long courtship.

Frank graduated in June 1955 and headed to Richland, Washington for an engineering position with General Electric the operator of the Hanford Washington Atomic Works. A couple months later Frank reconnected with Alice via US mail. Alice wanted to come out west so Frank made arrangements thru her church for a room at an elderly couples home in Pasco, Washington, ten miles from Richland. She flew out to Washington in November 1955 and landed a job as manager of a ladies apparel store in Pasco, a Seattle owned chain. Frank and one of his classmates had rented a Government two bedroom house in Richland and only Hanford workers could rent and live in Richland at that time. The courtship resumed and in May of 1958 they were married at a Catholic church in Minnesota that Frank's parents belonged to. This allowed the Minnesota relatives to attend.

Shortly after their return to Washington they purchased their first home in Richland since the Government was now selling the homes to the renters. In late 1962 Frank accepted a promotional transfer to GE Nuclear Division in San Jose, California. Shortly after moving to San Jose they joined the San Jose Germania Verein to go dancing and partake in the German club festivities and are still members. In January, 1965 they purchased a walnut ranch with ten acres of orchard in Paradise Valley west of Morgan Hill and still live there. They had seven children with all of them attending St. Catherine School for six years and graduating from Live Oak high school in Morgan Hill. They also belonged to the local antique car club and made many tours and parades in their 1928 Ford phaeton.

Alice was very active in volunteer work and fund raising at St. Catherine School from 1965 thru 1983. She was a great cook and we always had ten places at the dinner table as one of the kids had an overnight friend at the house. Alice set a great example to her children. She was always taking care of everyone else—it was part of who she was. Weather it was visiting the elderly in a home or bringing some baked goods to those in need, she was always willing to lend a hand to others even though she had her hands full at home with seven children.

Frank retired from GE in 1995 after nearly forty years. With an empty nest, Alice and Frank made several trips to Germany visiting relatives and German engineer friends that came to GE San Jose for joint design assignments.

Alice will be greatly missed by her husband, Frank; children, Bernadine of Morgan Hill, Lorenz (Karen)Busch of Vista, California, Christine(Kelly) Swanson of Santa Clara, California, Leonard (Kelly) Busch of Grants Pass, Oregon, Karl Busch of Morgan Hill, Anneliese (Mike) Scadden of San Jose and Bernar (Marcy) Busch of La Mesa, California ; twelve grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Alice has one surviving brother, Herman Beuch of New Prague.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Erich, Frederich, and Julius Beuch Martha Bussman, Lillian Klotz and Erna Fehlandt all of Minnesota.

Services have been held and she was interned at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery near Santa Nella, California.
