Obituary
Florence Mildred Carlson was born on September 12, 1920 in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. Her parents were the late Charles and Sigrid (Carlson) Carlson. Florence grew up on a farm near Underwood, Minnesota and graduated from the Fergus Falls HS with the class of 1938. She attended the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis as a member of the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corp. She graduated from the U of M with a 5-year BS Degree in nursing as a Registered Nurse/Public Health Nurse (RN/PHN). Florence was employed as a RN at Wright Hospital in Fergus Falls where she met Dale John Axelsen. She was the RN and he was her patient. Subsequently she worked as a RN in Minneapolis.
On June 4, 1949, Dale and Florence were married at Augustana Lutheran Church in Minneapolis where they were members. Together they made their home in South Minneapolis and raised three daughters. Florence was blessed to be a stay-at-home wife/mother/homemaker. She enjoyed spending time with her family, friends, and church family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought many smiles and happy memories into her life. Together Florence and Dale enjoyed taking walks in their neighborhood. During the summer Dale would often bring roses in from his garden to place in a rose bowl for her. Both had a deep personal faith in God and a strong prayer life which they instilled in their daughters.
Florence and Dale became members at Trinity Lutheran Church of Minnehaha Falls in the mid-60’s. They were very active during their years at both Trinity Lutheran Church of Minnehaha Falls and Augustana Lutheran Church. While Florence served faithfully in the background on the Alter/Communion team, Dale enjoyed serving faithfully as an usher. In 2007, they moved to the Augustana Apartments and again attended Augustana Lutheran Church. In 2012, they made their home in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Dale passed away on January 12, 2013 and shortly after Florence made her home in Perham, Minnesota. On September 4, 2017, she was welcomed into her eternal home in heaven.
Preceding Florence in death were her parents; husband, Dale; daughter, Cheryl; infant grandson, Michael A. Speer; sisters: Joyce Christiansen and Dorothy Evers.
