Woodward, Okla. — Funeral services for Charles DeVon, 86 year old Woodward resident, will be Thursday, May 20, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Gaylon Cox officiating. Interment will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery of under the direction of Billings Funeral Home.
Charles Steven DeVon was born on January 12, 1924 at Fraizer, Montana to Charles Steven and Nancy (Martin) Escacega. He grew up in Montana where he attended school. On February 10, 1943 he entered the United States Army Air Corp where he served with the 329th FTR Squadron in the Asiatic Pacific Region. He was honorably discharged from the service on January 23, 1946.
On November 3, 1948 Charles was united in marriage to Betty Jean Bock at Salem, Oregon. Their first home was at Omaha, Nebraska. They lived in several other states before moving to Woodward in 1963. Charles broke horses, worked in the oilfield and ran an upholstery shop. In his leisure time he enjoyed fishing, hunting and watching sports. His happiest moments were spent with his wife Betty. They had shared 62 years together.
Charles is survived by his wife Betty of the home, three sons, Steve DeVon and wife Karin of Mooreland, Kirby DeVon of Woodward, Chuck DeVon and wife Cindy of Enid; two daughters, Jolene Whalen and husband Don and Deborah Booth all of Woodward; three sisters, Betty Buck, Freida Fournier and Gladys McLaughlin and husband Tom; nineteen grandchildren, Michael DeVon, Brandy DeVon, Jerimiah DeVon, Shelley Gonzalez, Shannon Hunter, Stacy Booth, Derrick DeVon, Raydon Whalen, Jessica Morton, Kaylee DeVon, Aryn DeVon, Makensie DeVon, Morgan DeVon, Angelique Martinez, Aaron Martinez and Abigail Martinez; fourteen great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Everett, Darrell and Ernest Escacega; four sisters, Adilene, Ione, Midgie and Ruthie.
