He was the son of deceased parents Wilmer and Ruth Good of Newport News, Virginia, and Harrisonburg, Virginia. He never married. His siblings are James Good and wife Dorcas of Harrisonburg, Virginia, Velma and husband George Campbell of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, Ruby and husband Gary Turner of Broadway, Virginia, and Shirley and husband Wilmer Shank of Brandywine, West Virginia. Brothers Raymond and Oren Good preceded him in death.
Charles lived in California and Massachusetts most of his life, working as a personal butler in food preparation in restaurants, and was self-employed as landscaper and handyman.
His body was cremated and his ashes were buried in the Massachusetts Veterans Cemetery in Winchendon. The family gathered later in Harrisonburg, Virginia, to commemorate his life.
Charles "Charlie" was well-known in the valley. He was very committed to "living green" and buying "local" and walked, bused or rode his beloved bicycle wherever he could, only renting a vehicle when needed. Charlie was extremely well-read, a lover of words and a poet.
Donations in his memory may be made to National Public Radio or the Amherst Senior Center.
