Mrs. Martha Gregg Barclay, widow of Israel C. Barclay, Sr., died at her home in Carmichaels, Friday morning, December 16,aged 87 years. She had been in failing health for several months. Mrs. Barclay was a daughter of Joseph and Rebecca Minor Gregg and was born in Carmichaels May 21, 1845. She was united in marriage with Israel Craft Barclay February 14, 1863, by the Rev. Francis Downey. Mr. Barclay had returned home on a two day furlough from the Civil War to be married, leaving the next day to rejoin his company. After the close of the war, Mr. and Mrs. Barclay resided on a farm in Cumberland township for many years. Mrs. Barclay was a member of the New Providence Presbyterian Church for more than fifty years. She always attended the church services as long as her health would permit, and was much interested in the work of the church. Mr. Barclay's death occurred April 26, 1932. Four children survive: John L. Barclay of Cumberland township; Hugh Barclay of Marshfield, Oregon; Mrs. Anna Hart and Israel Barclay, Jr. both of Carmichaels; also 18 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Her brothers and sisters are deceased. The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon by the Rev. John O. Miller. Interment in the Glades cemetery. The pallbearers were her four grandsons and two great-grandsons.
