Bernice E. Young, 81, died at 1:00 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at her home.

She was born Oct. 14, 1931, in Curran, Ill., to Fred and Ellie Buchanan Harlan. She married James R. Young on Dec. 10, 1966, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 19, 2011. She is also preceded in death by her parents and 11 brothers and sisters.

Bernice is survived by four daughters: Judi, Sheila, Pam and Tricia; one son, Glenn; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Alice; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Church and had formerly worked as a waitress at the Abe Lincoln Hotel, Norb Andy's and the Lamplighter. She then ran her own home daycare for 12 years. Her hobbies included crocheting, cooking and baking. She also loved her yard and gardening, and had fostered many animals for the APL.

Private graveside services will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery at a later date.
