Denny Eugene Hawley,65, passed away at his home in Salmon on 8 July 2001 after a five year battle with cancer. He was born in Salmon, Idaho on 3 March 1936 to Clyde A. Hawley Sr. and Gertrude Denny Hawley. Except for one year, 1941, which was spent in Portland, Oregon where his parents were employed in the war effort, Denny grew up and received his education in Salmon, graduating from Salmon High School in 1954. He attended the College of Idaho in Moscow for one year before joining the Navy. He received his basic training at San Diego, California and served as a radar man aboard the destroyer the USS McDermott. He was honorably dicharged n 1959 at which time he returned to the College of Idaho for two more years. Denny went to work for Sears in Idaho Falls in 1962 as a retail salesman. He moved to Pocatello in 1968 and worked for Montgomery Ward until 1976 when he returned to Salmon. At that time he was employed by McPherson's Dry Goods where he remained until his illness forced him to retire in 1996. Denny also served on the Salmon City Council from 1978 until 1983 and as a Lemhi County Commissioner from 1983 until 1996. Denny married Audrey Marshall in 1966 and they later divorced. He married Rosalie Crawshaw in 1977 in Salmon. Denny loved people and he loved the Lord. He has been a faithful lifetime member of the Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the Masons, the American Legion and the Idaho Old Time Fiddlers. He is survived by his wife, Rosalie of Salmon; son, Douglas A. Hawley (Maria) of Salt Lake City, Utah; daughters, Leann Bush of Odgen, Utah, Vickie Harper of Mesa, Arizona, Laura Marshall of Pocatello, Gail Marshall of Reno, Nevada and Karen Porter of Boise. Also surviving are his mother, Gerturde Hade of Salmon and a brother, Clyde A. (Mary) Hawley Jr. of Nampa; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father in 1945. Memorial services were held 10 July 2001 at the Salmon Cemetery. Ritualistic services were given by Lloyd Shaw Post #67 of the American Legion of Salmon. Reverand Karen Hunter officiated and music was by the Salmon Old Time Fiddlers. Burial was in the Salmon Cemetery under the direction of the Salmon River Funeral Chapel of Salmon.
