Nira J. (Knappenberger) Frantz, 80, of Hahn's Dairy Road, Palmerton, Lower Towamensing Township, died Thursday in the Lehigh Valley Hospice Inpatient Unit, Allentown. She was the widow of Marvin A. Frantz, who died in 1974. Prior to retiring, she had been employed for many years as a teller for the former Citizen's Bank and Trust Company, Palmerton. Born in Lehighton, she was a daughter of the late Wilmer and Elizabeth E. (Smith) Knappenberger.Lutheran by faith, she enjoyed her participation in the Palmerton Elementary School PTO, where she served as a president for many years. Surviving are a daughter, Diane L. Heiny of Mahoning Township; a step-daughter, Merella M., wife of Gene Kerschner of Weissport; three grandchildren, Nicole, Craig and Josh; a sister, Remie Puluka of Somerville, N.J.; several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Bessie Strohl.
Service: Memorial service 11 a.m., Tuesday, Campton Funeral Home Inc., 525 Delaware Ave., Palmerton, with Chantor Steven Paluka officiating. Interment, private, Packerton Cemetery, Mahoning Township.
