Kay Bottenfield, 91, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2016, in Solon, where she had lived for the past five years. Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at McLaren's Chapel in West Des Moines, with burial in Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 10:30 a.m. until service time Saturday at McLaren's.

Kay was born Sept. 1, 1925, in Ottumwa, Iowa, to Monte and Elva (Blattner) Moorehead, the oldest of three children. She graduated from Ottumwa High School and took business courses in Des Moines. Kay married James Bottenfield on Aug. 3, 1945, in Des Moines. She worked at Preferred Risk Insurance Co. in West Des Moines for many years. She was active in various church groups at West Des Moines Methodist Church, where she was a member.

Kay enjoyed gardening, creating flower arrangements, making crafts, cross stitching, reading, directing and singing in various choirs, and socializing with others.

She is survived by her three children, Karol (Tom) Mauss of Gig Harbor, Wash., Darcy Miller of Solon and James (Deanne) Bottenfield of Urbandale; seven grandchildren, Shelley (Jonathan) Sprouffske, Michael (Kristine) Mauss, Tiffany (Travis) Dooley, Tara (Oliver) Miller, Jessica (James) Bottenfield-Biehn, Nick Bottenfield and Justin (fiancee, Pader Vue) Bottenfield; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Pat (John) Burns of Ames; brother, Bob (Pat) Moorehead of Pottsboro, Texas; three nieces; and one nephew.

Kay was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, James, in 2012; her parents; and her son-in-law, Thomas Miller.

Memorial contributions may be given to Iowa City Hospice or West Des Moines United Methodist Church.
