PARDINI, Marie (Abels)

Marie Abels Pardini passed away on Sunday evening May 20, 2012 just as the solar eclipse began. Her immediate family was with her at the time of her death.

Marie was the only child of Elizabeth and Raymond Niemeyer and grew up in Los Angeles, California. She received her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Southern California and her Masters Degree in Education from Los Angeles State College. She worked for over 30 years as a teacher in the Los Angeles County and Sacramento City School Districts, using her specialty certificates in reading and learning disabilities.

Marie was artistic and loved music - her Eichler home reflected this. A fact not known to many is that she held a decorator's license for many years.

At the end of WWII, while teaching for a year in Hawaii, she met her future husband, Daniel Abels, MD, also of Los Angeles. An entrepreneur as well as educator, Marie opened and ran a nursery school in Los Angeles before moving with Dan to Sacramento in 1955. Following Dan's premature death in 1962, Marie had a long and happy marriage to Albert L. Pardini who also preceded her in death in 2004. Marie was engaged in community activities serving as president of the Sacramento Medical Society Alliance (Auxilliary), and twice president of her beloved organization of P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization). She served on the founding Board of Directors for Methodist Hospital and was active as a volunteer in political campaigns for both local and national candidates in the 1960s. She was a member of the Phi Mu sorority.

Marie was a member of Valley Hi Country Club where she played bridge and golf with the 'Niners'"-most of all she enjoyed their company.

Throughout her lifetime, Marie loved to travel and entertain. She loved France and the French language in particular. With her sparkling personality and warm, bright smile, she made lasting friendships with ease wherever she traveled. She was a positive and forward thinking woman until her very last day of life. Marie maintained a sense of fun and humor and her joie de vivre is an inspiration to all who knew her.

She is survived by her only daughter, Alicia M. Abels, M.D., her fiance Steve Lindall and son of husband Albert, Richard Pardini and his wife, Martha, grandson Merritt Pardini, his wife Celia and their children Emma and Anderson; cousins Donald, Liza and Gianna Segretti, Wallace Wedeen, Linda Wedeen, Steve Wedeen, Bob Wedeen and spouse Connie Wedeen, their daughters Tasha Harris and Kelsey Hendrix and her husband Joe Hendrix and granddaughter Penelope, step-daughters Katie Smith, Kim Bowman and spouse Ralph and two grandsons Matthew and Ryan.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 24 at 11:00 AM at Harry A. Nauman and Son's at 4041 Freeport Blvd, Sacramento. A small graveside ceremony at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills will be held at a later date.
