She was born in Troy, Alabama, on March 13, 1916. Her parents were Rev. Henry Lee Sneed and Delia Osborne Sneed. Mrs Hagan graduated from Archer High School in Archer, FL, and attended Erskine College in Due West, SC, and South Georgia Teacher's College in Statesboro where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree.. She earned a Master's Degree in Education from Emory University. In 1962, she was awarded a fellowship from the National Science Foundation and received her Education Specialist Degree from the University of Georgia in 1963.
Mrs. Hagan came to Screven County as a teacher at Rocky Ford in 1935 and later was principal and teacher at Jackson High School. She was elected Superintendent of Screven County Schools in 1970 and also worked as a Math Consultant for the First District and CSRA Regional Educational Service Agencies. She retired in 1978. Mrs. Hagan was a member of Sylvania First United Methodist Church.
She married George Douglas Counts, Jr., on June 17, 1937, and he preceded her in death on October 6,1981.
She was married to Carl E. Hagan from 1986 to his death in 2002.
Mrs. Hagan is survived by daughters, Agatha C. Kent of Sylvania, Becky Deal of Macon, Trudy (Gerald) Hill of Sylvania; two sons, John Mark (Brenda E.) Counts of Sylvania and Douglas (Jan) Counts of Bluffton, SC; twelve grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one sister, Lillian Parks Sneed Brown of Roanoke, VA,and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brothers and sister: Henry L. Sneed, Jr., Lt. Col. William O. Sneed, and Dr. Frusanna Sneed Booth.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Benjie Kent, Brad Kent, Brannon Deal, Matt Deal, Patrick Smith, Michael Smith, Mark Counts and George D. Counts.
