Funeral services for Celena E. Lehmann,85, were held Monday, Oct. 21, 1996 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Monticello, with burial in Oakwood Cemetery. The Rev. Robert Hannemann officiated at the services.
Celena E. Lehmann of Monticello died Friday, Oct. 18, 1996 at the home of her daughter, following an extended illness. Celena Elizabeth Sophie Stahlberg was born April 12, 1911 in Jones County, the daughter of Johannes and Sophia Antones Stahlberg. She attended Wayne Township School No. 5. Celena E, Stahlberg and Earl F. Lehmann were married on Dec. 14, 1933 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Monticello by the Rev. Adix. She worked at the canning factory, button factory and Hoag Duster Company. She and Earl made ice cream for Shomont Dairy, managed the Monte Theater, and later cleaned and maintained the Monticello State Bank and Cuckler Buildings. Her husband, Earl, preceded her in death on Feb. 12, 1993. She was baptized on July 2,1911 at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church by Pastor Mardorf. She was confirmed on April 5, 1925 by the Rev. Willms. Following their marriage, she was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church.
Surviving are seven children, John F. (Betsy) Reid Jr. of San Antonio, Texas, Lorna (Richard) Davis of Monticello, Lyda (Steve) DeShaw of Amber, Jeryl (Chuck) Bacon of Hopkinton, Janis (Doug) Toenjes of Monticello, LaVerle (Dennis) Kyarsgaard of Sterling, Ill., JuNelle (Jim) Benter, Monticello; 20 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ann Smith of Fond du Lac, Wis., and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Earl, she was also preceded in death by her parents, a son Denis Earl, a grandson Wayne Alan, four brothers, Henry, August, Carl, Johnny; two sisters, Dora Tobiason and Grace Reid. Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, was in charge of the arrangements.
