Daughter of John and Ann (Covenhoven) Vanderbilt. John Vanderbilt (1757 - 1812) was a continental soldier in the American Revolution. Believed to have born on Staten Island, New York, and died at Readington, New Jersey.

Lena was a cousin of Commordore Cornelius Vanderbilt.

She married John Bockoven on July 7, 1800. John was born in 1764. They moved from Basking Ridge, New Jersey, to Wayne County New York in 1813. They had then children. Six of their children were still living in 1899, which is when their eldest child, Maria, died. The six still living were:

Elizabeth Ann, July 26, 1803 [John W. Berkaw]
Hannah, 1805 [Aaron Erickson]
Caroline, July 26, 1813 [Stevens]
Juletta, July 30, 1816 [Lambrite]
Cornelius, January 30, 1818
Charles, December 8, 1819
