A Veteran of World War 1
Darak Blackburn Armstrong was the younger of two children born to John Blackburn Armstrong (1863-1949) and Georgie H. (Cardwell) Armstrong (1873-1963). He was b.Jan 31, 1895 and had an older sister, Leta, who was 3 years older and married Bedford Clinton. They came to stay with Darak and his parents in 1920, per the 1920 US Census, and lived with them in Knox, Tennessee. By the 1930 US Census, Darak Blackburn Armstrong had married Mary Ruth Burkhart, (on August 11, 1920 in Chattanooga, Tennessee) and they had become the proud parents of three children,
Dan Clinton, b.1924, Lynn Blackburn, b.1926, and Martha Ruth Armstrong, b.1928. Darak served during World War 1, prior to his marriage. He worked as a Machinist for the Railroad which enabled him to support his family and purchase their family home in Knoxville, Knox County, Tennessee. Darak Armstrong passed from this life on New Year's Day, 1981, a month before his 86th birthday. He was buried at Lynnhurst Cemetery in Knoxville, his life long home. He was a father and grandfather to many and was (and is) greatly missed by all. His dear wife followed him in death on September 2nd, 1992. She is buried next to her beloved husband at Lynnhurst Cemetery, Knoxville, Knox Co., Tennessee. Both are together in Heaven forever.
***A granddaughter and great granddaughter, Jan L. (Cooper) Asher, has helped me greatly so I could link family members who have passed. She has also added family photos and created a memorial for her great grandmother so I could continue the link in our family tree on Find A Grave. I have always attempted to link people with their ancestors and feel badly about some earlier errors, which I have corrected, Thanks to Jan's help. John Blackburn Armstrong has now been added to the Find a Grave system as has Georgia "Georgie" (Cardwell) Amstrong, so I have linked this son to them. I feel badly about earlier mistakes I made and am so sorry, hoping things have been corrected, finally!
