Married Mary Bowie, Jul 1808, in Catahoula area of St. Landry Parish (previously Opelousas Parish). Her brother, James (Jim Bowie, who died at the Alamo in 1836) was 12 years old in 1808. Abraham Sr. purchased Bowie's 640 acre plantation from Bowie the same month his son married Mary Bowie. There would have been a large family and community group celebrating the marriage, then helping each other with moving, settling in, etc.
Military service: joined the Consolidated (17th, 18th and 19th Louisiana Regiments) Louisiana Division for the War of 1812 and missed fighting at the Battle of New Orleans by days, although the Division was marching toward it. (Source available from memorial creator)
