She subsequently lived in France, Italy, Greece, Egypt and India, as well as in England.She wrote several books including "Mediterranean Food", "French Country Cooking" & "Italian Food". In 1982 she was made a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in recognition of her skills as a writer. She was awarded a CBE in 1986.
