Lupe N. Gaona, age 79, lifetime resident of Miami passed away on Monday, March 7, 2011, at Copper Mountain Inn. He was born on Feb. 15, 1932, in Miami, Ariz., the son of Teresa (Navarro) and Narcisso Gaona.
Lupe attended Miami High School and graduated in 1951. He joined the Navy in 1952, and served four years active duty aboard the USS Haven #32 and aboard the USS Tanker Guadalupe A08 as a machinist.
He married Ines Calleros on May 20, 1956, and they had two children, Pat and Barbara. He was employed with Inspiration Consolidated Copper Company as a Mill Supervisor and retired after 35 years.
Lupe had many friends and family in the community and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed mining, taking his wife to the casino, and his family.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ines on Aug. 1, 2010; father, Narcisso; mother, Teresa; two sisters and four brothers.
Lupe leaves behind in loving memory his children, Pat Gaona of Mesa, Ariz. and Barbara James and Brent Loy of Miami, Ariz.; two grandsons, Joseph (Anna) James of Globe, Ariz. and Derek James of Miami, Ariz.; one great-grandson, Korbin James; and one brother, Michael Gaona.
Services were held Thursday, March 10, 2011, at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament, 844 W. Sullivan St., in Miami, Ariz.
Interment with Military Honors followed at Mountain Breeze Memorial Gardens, Miami, Ariz.
