Interment will follow at Cook Walden Capital Parks Cemetery, Pflugerville, Texas. Edward was born September 22, 1919 in Austin, Texas to the late Walter and Frieda Benner. He lived most of his life in the Austin area, having been raised during the depression he was taught at an early age what a hard day's work meaned. Ed was sent to work at a CCC Camp at a very young age to help the family farm. He was drafted into the United States Army in about 1942 and went away to fight in WWII. His company was a part of the first supply trucks to arrive on the beaches of Normandy on D-day. Ed served his country honorably in the U. S. Army from 1942 to 1945. Upon return home to Texas, Ed began working as a carpenter. He was a long standing member of Local #1266 Carpenter's Union in Austin. He met Mary Bunah Wade, and they married on April 23, 1946. They were married over 40 years; Ed lost Mary in a tragic car accident in 1986. Ed was an active member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Austin and later an active member of Faith Lutheran in Georgetown. Throughout his life, Ed worked as a carpenter, one of the biggest projects he was on was the University of Texas Campus. He and his son Kenneth worked side by side there for several years. Ed was always quick with a story and a joke to make you smile and let you know he loved you. The memories he shared will be cherished by his family for years to come. Ed is preceded in death by his parents Walter Willie and Frieda Kieke Benner; his wife of over 40 years, Mary Bunah Benner in 1986; his son in August of 2011, David Lee Benner; his brother, Wilbert Benner and his sister, Alta Mae Benner Kretchmar.
